Both teams' rosters were changed a lot in the big deal that happened just days before training camp started. Both teams are likely to be better off as a result. This meant that the Timberwolves had to find a way to save money. If Karl-Anthony Towns was a bit more stable as a max-signed player, it might not have been through him.
Since Edwards and Gobert might have been more important to the team, Towns or the role players had to be moved. The Timberwolves got Julius Randle instead, whose deal is about $30 million a year and costs them less.
